Fine art giclées begin with the best copies of your artwork...at a reasonable price.
- The artwork and lens/sensor must be precisely parallel to one another, free of yaw, pitch or roll. This requires the use of a professional copy stand.
- The use of a flat field macro copy lens is essential to the process.
- The larger the file, the larger the copy can be enlarged. We use the Canon 5D Mark II for copy work, which produces a file of approximately 25.8MB (5616 x 3744 pixels) in RAW mode. The native size of this file is 23.4" x 15.6". It's easy to see how this file could be made as large as 40" x 30" using a program like genuine fractals.
- Soft even lighting is essential in copy work. We have developed a lighting scheme that produces optimal results.
- Color profiling and white balance of the camera and a color corrected workflow throughout the copy and printmaking process are the final keys to the best giclées.
- Through careful control of all these factors, we produce files that match originals and are comparable to those produced by the highest end flat bed scanners at a fraction of the price.
