South Channel Light or Cockspur Light was first lit in 1848. It helped guide ships up the Savannah River, past Tybee Island, and into Savannah. I have been fascinated by this little lighthouse for nearly 10 years and have made scores of images, but none as satisfying as this series made from a small boat. The high key effect emulates the lighthouse cloaked in mist or fog and depicts the twice daily disappearance, at high tide, of the island on which it sits. 24” x 28”: $400
