004Savannah Stair

This is the grand entrance to the Elizabeth Ann Jewett house in Savannah. The 1842 property was built for Ms. Jewett, a noted antebellum real estate developer in Savannah. The appeal for me is the arc of the stairway and handrail punctuated by the piano key-like stairs. The color tones of this piece are also noteworthy as the full spectrum of tonal values of the brown hues ranges from the lightest biscuit and sand tones in the wall of the building, through umber, burnt sienna and chestnut tones in the recently fallen live oak leaves. 28 1/2” x 38 ¼”: $550
